ASSISTANT BREWER

An assistant brewer at Gladstone Brewing Co. assists with many brewing, packaging, cleaning and maintenance duties at the brewery and otherwise provides support to the brewhouse and cellar as directed. Reporting to the Head Brewer, this position is suited for the passionate homebrewer with 2+ years production experience, or a degree in Brewing Science with 6+ months production experience.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Adheres to all safety regulations of Gladstone Brewing Co.

  • Receiving raw materials, all aspects of brewing (milling, mashing, lautering/sparging, boiling, transferring, pitching yeast)

  • All aspects of cellar work (daily Quality Control checks, dry hopping, fining, tank cleaning, carbonating)

  • All aspects of packaging (keg cleaning, kegging, canning)

  • Working with other members of the team to ensure all beer that leaves the facility is of the highest quality and that the brewery is kept clean, functional, and up to Gladstone Brewing Co.’s standards at all times

  • Record keeping

  • Additional duties may be assigned as necessary

 

YOU ARE:

  • Able to work a flexible schedule anywhere between 6am and 9pm, occasional weekends, with the possibility of overtime

  • Able to lift 25kg to shoulder height

  • Able to lift 65kg with another person to waist height

  • Able to work in hot, cold, wet and loud environments

  • Able to stand up to 10 hours a day, with 30 min break

  • Able to multi-task and manage stressful circumstances associated with a fast-paced and evolving work environment

  • Able to work effectively both independently as well as in a team environment

  • Detail-oriented

  • Self-motivated 


THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL POSSESS:

  • Several years of homebrewing experience

  • 2+ years production experience OR a degree in Brewing Science with 6+ months production experience

  • Successful recipe development experience

  • Mechanical aptitude preferred

  • A high level of professionalism

  • Strong teamwork ethic with enthusiasm and a passion for craft beer

  • Experience working on a canning line an asset

  • Experience installing and repairing mechanical equipment an asset
